I posted this essay on a variety of other web sites that accept diaries of this nature. I added a question - Are you racist? Well - the response so far has been interesting to say the least. On dKos, some of the comments were defensive and dismissive - before the diary completely disappeared from view, of course. On Booman, the conversation was substantive - always adding and never subtracting from the overall topic. People there seemed willing to engage. On MyDD it has been ignored completely - the same as on Political Cortex. Fascinating! Especially dKos - one person even took me to task for not outright attacking individual racists. ??????? I guess he thinks he's the new welter-weight champ!

- Bruce Hornsby's finest. We are treating the Katrina survivors the same way.
- By Phil Ochs. Not what you'd think. He wrote it following the murder of three civil rights workers in the mid '60's. Still pertinent today, I fear.
- This one's by Lindsay Buckingham. All hail the 4th estate!
- Song by the late, great Harry Chapin. It references Vietman, but remains pithy.
- By Bright Eyes. One of the best protest songs to come along in years.
- From the musical, 1776.
Check it out - the reference may be Revolutionary War era, but the sentiment rocks!

dkos is way to repugnant for me, but this other place, Booman, sounds like a good site for a good discussion. I'll have to check that one out.
